Johnathan Rickman | Blue Vault
In an ever-evolving financial landscape, it’s important to make sure your advisory practice — and your clients’ investment goals — are headed in the right direction. Signposts are everywhere telling you that alternative investments can help diversify portfolios, make them more recession-resistant, and maximize return on investment, but the paths are many and you’re not always sure where they lead.
That’s why we’ve created the Blue Vault Bowman Alts Summit. Join us March 11-13 at the Omni PGA Resort in Frisco, TX, and join other travelers — advisors, asset managers, home office personnel, and others — on their quest for real-time alts knowledge and networking.
In just under one week, this annual event will become the center of the alts industry universe, and it will be filled with stars: alts experts, like our elite and ambassador partners and presenters, who will be there to guide you with their expertise and valuable insights.
Enhancing Client Portfolios
Our partners and presenters include Josh Hoffman, President, Bluerock Value Exchange, and Managing Director, Bluerock, who will lead the day-two breakout session, “A Guide to Generating Higher Tax-Efficient Income and Better Risk-Adjusted Returns in a Client’s Portfolio.”
Without giving too much away, Hoffman provided us with a preview of his upcoming talk, and how it touches on an important aspect of alts investing that isn’t always top of mind for those new to the journey:
“What is often overlooked in today’s higher-yield environment is the tax aspect of ordinary income-generating investments such as bonds, CDs, and so forth,” Hoffman said. “Investors can often generate significantly higher after-tax yields through alternative investments, such as real estate, while also increasing their overall returns, as many alternative investments also include opportunities for value creation and appreciation.”
Enjoying the potential tax and other benefits of alts often requires patience, which Hoffman says can unlock one of the most important virtues of alternatives: the “illiquidity premium.”
“Investors should have a longer-term view with alternatives but let them work through multiple cycles to obtain the most value,” he says. “Alternatives are like soap, the less you touch, the more material remains.”
Hoffman says Bluerock became an elite sponsor of the Alts Summit because of the company’s belief in the continuing need for alts education, of which he says both new and experienced wealth management professionals are always in need:
“Virtually every recent study we’ve seen polling advisors and investors reaches similar conclusions: There’s enduring demand for more alts education, better alts access, and expectations of higher allocations to alts for the income and portfolio diversification benefits they seek to provide,” he said.
Investing in Real Estate
Is real estate investing still potentially beneficial in the current economic environment as Josh Hoffman suggests? “Unlocking the Leitbox Self Storage Vault: A Differentiated Approach to Fortified Investments” might provide you with an answer you weren’t expecting. Join Bill Leitner, Managing Principal, Leitbox Storage Partners, for a breakout session that will help make sense of the opportunities available in this key alts sector.
The general session, “2024 Megatrends: Investment Opportunities in Lodging,” explores a specific segment of real estate investing: the upper end of the hotel chain scale. Learn why representatives from our ambassador partner Ashford Securities refer to the hospitality sector as a cross-generational investment megatrend. The session will be led by Eric Batis, Executive Vice President, Operations, Ashford Inc.; and C. Jay Steigerwald III, President, Head of Distribution, Ashford Inc.
Navigating Macroeconomic Cycles
Excited about alts but not sure if they work in high-rate environments more generally? ExchangeRight Managing Partner Joshua Ungerecht is leading a general session for those looking to brush up on their use of data to guide allocation choices over multiple cycles.
The aptly titled, “Where Are We in the Macroeconomic Cycle,” will present an overview of the macroeconomic cycle along with data about how various asset classes have historically performed through different segments of the cycle, including recessionary periods. This session is sure to provide perspective you’re not likely to find just anywhere.
Understanding Wealthtech
The role that technology plays in promoting, managing, and subscribing to alts will also take center stage at the Alts Summit. Join Brad West, Chief Operating Officer with enterprise technology platform AIX, as he explores ways to make technology work for you in the short-but-informative breakout session, “Alternative Investments and the Technology Disruption We’ve All Been Waiting For.”
Alts Summit 2024, now in a new, central location, is the place to gain knowledge and network with experienced asset managers and industry experts.
