FTSE EPRA Nareit Index Returns for U.S. Listed REITs Negative in 2018

The FTSE EPRA Nareit Index for U.S. listed REITs showed total returns were negative for December 2018 and for the year. The U.S. index, consisting of 130 listed REITs, had a net total return for December of – 8.41% and a 12-month return for 2018 of -5.01%. The U.S. net total returns, while negative, were not as severe as the France index (-24.82%), or the U.K. index (-18.64%). Among the developed country indices, Japan had the best performance for 2018 with a 6.23% net total return. The U.S. REITs made up 52.7% of the developed country index with a $724 billion total market cap for its 130 REIT constituents.
