Announcement date: October 19, 2026
KKR and Ares Management announced an agreement under which KKR will sell Infinity Transportation, a railcar and intermodal equipment lessor, to Ares Infrastructure Equity and Ares Insurance Solutions funds for approximately $2.9 billion in enterprise value.
Infinity owns and manages approximately 50,000 railcars leased to more than 350 lessees across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. KKR’s subsidiary, Global Atlantic, has invested in the business since 2016.
The transaction is expected to close in Q1 2027, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. It has not been completed.
Why We’re Watching
The deal highlights transportation equipment as an investment within alternatives. For advisors evaluating infrastructure strategies, it offers a concrete example of the underlying businesses—and leasing exposure—that can sit behind a broad asset-class label.
It also provides a useful starting point for questions about customer diversification, lease terms, equipment maintenance, and the sensitivity of demand to economic conditions.
